Cheryl’s List #27 – July 20, 1999

by | Jul 20, 1999 | Cheryl's List

In this issue, I’ll cover the following:

1. IBM LSPR Update
2. WANTED: Your Performance Stories
3. SHARE Members-only Service

1. IBM LSPR Update
On July 15, IBM updated their LSPR ratings for the following processors: 9672-RA4, -RB4, -RC4, -RA5, -RB5, and -RC5. These result in some minor changes to the MIPS ratings in our CPU Chart. IBM also published their LSPR ratings by workload for the HDS Skyline machines using the OS/390 R4 base and new benchmark jobs as described in the previous Cheryl’s List. If you subscribe to our printed publication, Cheryl Watson’s TUNING Letter, you may receive the new ratings by sending an email to admin@watsonwalker.com with your company name and address.

2. Wanted: Your Performance Stories
I’ve been invited to give a keynote speech at SHARE (August 22-27) to introduce their week-long conference with its emphasis on performance and capacity planning. The topic of my talk is “Is Performance Tuning Dead?”. You can probably guess my answer, and I’m busy collecting ammunition now. I’d love to hear about some of your performance success stories, especially the ones that saved loads of money! I’ll send a copy of my completed presentation to anyone whose story I use. Please let me know if I can use your name and company name in my presentation. If you aren’t signed up for SHARE, you can find out more about their conference at http://www.share.org.

3. SHARE Members-only Service
SHARE has just opened a new facility in their Members Only area that will search the text of over 20 mailing lists. They keep a two-month archive of these mailing lists, which include several of the IBM-MAIN forums, as well as Cheryl’s List. Try this out – I like it! The facility is called the “Mail-List Repository” and it can be found at http://www.share.org/members.

That’s all for now. Stay tuned!
