2. Clarification of Cheryl’s List #77
In the last Cheryl’s List, we discussed the new z990 feature called On/Off Capacity on Demand, or OOCoD. Starting in September of this year, z990 users with cyclical workloads will be able to activate one or more of their unused processor engines for a 24-hour period. This new feature will be known as On/Off Capacity on Demand, or OOCoD. This is something that can be requested by the customer and made available in just a few hours. Adding more engines dynamically will alter the model type returned by the STSI instruction. We said that “software that is sensitive to the model type of the host machine may have problems after you use this feature.” That’s not really true. The ISVs were notified about this option earlier, and most should have exits already installed to handle changing models. You simply need to make sure to contact your vendor to ensure that you have the correct release or PTF installed.
Stay tuned!
