SHARE is Now Virtual (and Cheap!)

For only $199 (SHARE members & faculty) or $399 (non-members) or free (students) you can virtually attend SHARE this month. We don’t understand why everybody isn’t taking advantage of this great training. If you’ve never been to SHARE, this is a great opportunity to see why we consider it a must-have for our own education. You can find more information, and sign up for the conference, here.
For the first time ever, the SHARE conference is going to be a virtual one. These are changing times, so SHARE is changing with them. The agenda format has been modified to make it easier for ‘attendees’ to participate remotely, with a minimal impact on their workday. The conference is being spread over 3 weeks as follows:
- Week 1 – Tuesday August 4th, Wednesday August 5th, and Thursday August 6th.
- Week 2 – Wednesday August 12th (only one day this week)
- Week 3 – Tuesday August 18th, Wednesday August 19th, and Thursday August 20th.
The start time varies from day to day (usually noon to 4 pm ET) – you can get the full conference agenda here. (Yes, we know that’s 10 or 11 pm in Europe, but you don’t need to watch them live. You can watch them at your leisure.)
Frank and I will be presenting a session on the last day of the conference. Our session is ‘What’s New for Sysprogs, Security, and Tuning in SYS1.PARMLIB?’ and starts at 14:30 Eastern time. The session is only 45 minutes long, compared to the 60 minute sessions at a ‘normal’ SHARE. Given the challenge Frank and I have in trying to fit all our material into a 60 minute slot, I think that we have an interesting time ahead of us as we try to fit it all into 45 minutes.
We don’t know when things will return to ‘normal’ and we can once again have real face-to-face conferences. That may not be any time soon. But technology marches on, and we all have a responsibility to keep up to date. In the absence of a real SHARE conference, we wouldn’t miss a virtual one.
If you have never been able to attend a real SHARE, this is the ideal chance to convince your management to let you take part in the virtual one. Whether your company is a SHARE member or not, the registration fee is a pittance compared to the value that you will get from taking part. And hopefully, when we return to real conferences, your management will have seen the value that you received from the virtual conference and will insist that you attend the real one.
Looking a little further out into the future, the Winter 2021 SHARE is currently planned to take place in the Hilton Anaheim, Anaheim, California, from March 14th to the 19th, 2021. And the Summer 2021 SHARE is scheduled for the Greater Columbus Convention Center, in Columbus, Ohio, from August 8th to the 13th, 2021. Hopefully our world will have gone though another huge transformation by then, and we can once again shake hands with, and even hug (!) our friends. We look forward to seeing you there.
