Dear Watson & Walker customers and friends,
We have some really big news – at the end of 2024 we’re retiring and shutting down our business and the Tuning Letter. Tom and I would like to thank you all for being such fantastic customers and friends for the past many years. We especially want to thank our many Tuning Letter subscribers who have been with us since the very first issue. When we started Cheryl Watson’s Tuning Letter in 1991, we never dreamed it would be such a success. We’ve made so many friends around the world since we started Watson & Walker in 1987 that we feel welcome wherever we travel. Thank you!
Since 1965 I have had a passion for all things mainframe-related, and that’s the reason it’s especially bitter-sweet for me to announce that at the end of 2024, we’ll be retiring. I’m 79 and Tom is 81, and we’re ready to go on to the next phase, as are Frank and Sydney. It’s been a fantastic time, but we still have many adventures on our bucket list. Although Tom and I were able to take two months in Morocco and Spain (2023), we still have so much to do that we’re looking forward to. I missed out on paragliding while in Spain, so that’s still on my list. 😀
And we couldn’t have made it anywhere near this far without our amazing President, Frank Kyne, who has been writing the newsletter and doing just about everything else since 2014. Thanks, Frank!
And of course no revenue comes in without the patient help of Sydney, our Accounts Manager. Thanks, Sydney!
So from here on out, we will be sending out prorated invoices for both the Tuning Letter and CPU Chart, as well as GoalTender and BoxScore. The expiration dates for all products will be the end of 2024, but of course you’ll receive Tuning Letter 2024-4, to be sent in early 2025.
And for those of you who have never subscribed (or have let your subscription lapse), 2024 will be your last opportunity to access all the Tuning Letters, conference presentations, technical papers, and everything else we’ve published during the last 34 years! Just go to watsonwalker.com/publications to subscribe if you’re not a customer already. There are still very valid recommendations, even in our very first 1991 Tuning Letter about TSO. And those of you who haven’t already ordered z/OS V3 or the z16, will find Frank’s more recent articles on those topics useful for the next few years.
Tom, Frank, and I will be at SHARE in Orlando on March 3-7, so please look us up. I may be chatting in the halls around the z/OS sessions saying goodbyes instead of actually attending sessions. I might be only 4’10”, but I’m hard to miss! And if you would like to contact us before or after the conference, or if you won’t be attending, you can email us here.
P.S., We tried to find a buyer for the Tuning Letter, but were unsuccessful. Sorry that it didn’t work out!
All our best,
Cheryl and Tom
