See You At SHARE in San Jose

See You At SHARE in San Jose!

I can tell already that this is going to be one of my worst SHAREs ever.  You see, I’m not very good at handling too much choice.  I can spend 15 minutes in a Hagen Dazs shop trying to choose between Vanilla and Vanilla Chocolate Chip.  So I was looking at the list of sessions for the upcoming SHARE, selecting the ones that I would like to attend as I went along.  You would normally expect to get to 6 sessions in a day.  And the conference is 4.5 days long, so that comes to 27 sessions.  Unfortunately, my wish list has 122 sessions in it!  There is at least one slot where I have 6 sessions that I would like to see.  This is the z/OS equivalent of having to choose between Vanilla, Vanilla Chocolate Chip, Belgian Chocolate, Salted Caramel, Strawberries and Cream, and Summer Berries & Cream!  Sigh – there goes my waistline again…

There are too many fantastic sessions to list them all, but one that I will definitely have to attend is the z/OS 2.3 Preview that Cheryl mentioned in her postPeter Muench‘s RMF Latest and Greatest is always chock full of interesting information.  And I want to see Akiko Hoshikawa‘s Utilizing Large Memory in DB2 12 session.  Unfortunately, they are all on at the same time, so I will have to master tri-location 🙁

Tuning Letter subscribers might have read our article about using WLM to classify Mobile Workload Pricing-eligble transactions.  If this topic is of interest to you, there are two sessions that you will definitely want to include on your itinerary: Session 20273, Workload Management (WLM) Update for Mobile Pricing, Capping, z13 and z/OS 2.2, by Andreas Heinicke, and Session 20341, CICS and Workload Manager – Now With Mobile Workload Information!, by Brad Snyder.

Other interesting tidbits – the SHARE mobile phone App has been enhanced so that sessions you select using a browser on your PC now show up in your My Sessions list on your phone – a huge improvement, and thank you to the folks at SHARE for that.  If you haven’t downloaded the SHARE app yet, do so now. To find it in the Google Play Store, search on ‘a2z SHARE’.

Also, rumor has it that all the hotels in the area are booked out.  So if you haven’t booked your hotel yet, expect a long hike to and from the convention center every day.  So those attendees will get two benefits – an endless supply of invaluable technical information and networking opportunities AND a free daily workout!  Let’s hope that the lack of hotel rooms is an indication of another high turnout for SHARE.

Last thing – if you are going to be at SHARE, please drop by our stand in the Expo (Booth 217), or one of our sessions.  We always love to meet our readers and learn from your experiences.

Stay Tuned.
