Upcoming IBM Network Security Change

by | Mar 2, 2021 | Cheryl's List

In case you have missed it, effective April 30, 2021, IBM is removing support for TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 from its software download servers, and all connection attempts after that date will have to use TLS 1.2.

If you currently download files using HTTPS, then you should not be affected.  However, if you use FTPS to download the files, then you will need to make some changes to your system.   The details are too long to go into here, so you should refer to Marna Walle’s excellent SHARE Blog post that provides all the information you need.

Please review that post and take the required actions now, even if you have no immediate plans to download software or services from IBM.  You know how these things work – if you don’t address this now, you will need an emergency fix on May 1, and will lose hours trying to figure out why it isn’t working.   On the other hand, if you make the required changes now, not only will you save all that head-scratching on May 1, you more than likely won’t encounter the problem that would require that emergency fix in the first place!

Thanks to Marna for always looking after IBM’s customers’ interest.  If you don’t already subscribe to Marna’s blog, we recommend that you fix that now.  Marna’s posts are always chock full of timely, valuable, information.

Stay tuned!
